Planting Guide

When to plant

Early spring until frost - In Zone 6, where we are located, that is from May until September 30th.

Where to plant

Daylilies are sun-loving plants, but they will also bloom rather well in partial shade. Four to six hours or more of sun is preferred but in our Zone 6 they have done well in filtered light in shaded areas. They do not like full shade.

Soil

Thrives in a variety of soil conditions with a pH of 6-7. Adding compost, rotted leaves or wood chips, old manure or almost any other organic material may improve mediocre soil.

Spacing

In a mixed perennial border allow a circle of 16-18 inches in diameter if the daylily will be divided and replanted in 3-5 years. If you expect to leave the clump intact for 5-10 years it will need 18-24 inches or more.
